SEGAMAT, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Kampung Lembah Bakti and Kampung Bukit Tunggal, the earliest villages to be flooded saw 177 victims from 36 families evacuated to two relief centres in the district.
According to the Segamat District Civil Defence Force officer, Staf Muda Mohd Nazlan Roslan said all the victims were evacuated to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Ai Chun and Kampung Lembah Bakti community hall starting from 4.20pm today.
"Up to now 29 families comprising 159 evacuees have been placed at Kampung Lembah Bakti community hall and seven families comprising 18 victims have been transferred to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Ai Chun.
"Their homes were flooded after it rained non stop since 2.00am today," he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said it was still raining in some places here and the Civil Defence Force and other agencies involved in Segamat District Flood Management would monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, Johor State Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the government, through the Social Welfare Department and local area representatives would distribute aid such as food to the flood victims here.
"The state government is always concerned about helping the flood victims and thanks the agencies and departments involved on their cooperation in aiding them," he told Bernama tonight.
