BANGKOK, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will officially table the proposed list of sports for the SEA Games Malaysia 2027 when it assumes the chairmanship of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) immediately after the conclusion of the current edition in Thailand.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria emphasised that the proposed list of 38 sports for the 2027 edition of the biennial Games is provisional.
“As the custodian of multi-sport Games in Malaysia, NOC (National Olympic Committee) of Malaysia has a duty to protect and safeguard the interests of the SEA Games, the SEAGF Member NOCs and the Olympic Movement in the Southeast Asian region,” he said in a post on OCM's Facebook page today.
OCM also said that Mohamad Norza presented the progress report of the 34th edition of the biennial Games, scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor from Sept 18-29, 2027, during the SEAGF final council meeting for the 2023-2025 term here yesterday.
On Friday (Dec 5), Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that among the 38 provisional sports listed for the SEA Games Malaysia 2027 are athletics, badminton, football, hockey and karate.
The opening ceremony for SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be held at the Rajamangala National Stadium later today and will run until Dec 20 in two provinces - Bangkok and Chonburi.
