NIBONG TEBAL, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The PERDA Advanced Technical Institute (PERDA-TECH) has maintained its strong track record as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre, achieving a graduate employability rate of 82 per cent for its 2024 cohort.

Rural and Regional Development Ministry deputy secretary-general (Development) Datuk Dr Roslan Mahmood said the performance reflects PERDA-TECH’s success in producing skilled and semi-skilled workers who meet industry demands, in line with the national aspirations to strengthen TVET as a key driver of economic growth.

“For the past 36 years, PERDA-TECH has been offering various industry-recognised programmes, thus expanding access to skills-based education for rural youths and those who did not secure places at public or private higher learning institutions,” he said when officiating the 14th PERDA-TECH Convocation Ceremony here today.

At the event, 415 graduates received their diplomas and certificates.

Roslan said the institution currently offers 19 programmes from certificate to diploma levels and has introduced new courses, such as the Diploma in Creative Fashion Technology, to broaden students’ academic pathways.

He said PERDA-TECH also conducts high-impact upskilling programmes, including Underwater Welding and Cutting Training through its Centre of Advanced Skill (CoAS), which provides access to high-income career opportunities.

“A total of 30 participants have completed this programme, and one of the women participants was named the best trainee,” he said.

On innovation, Roslan said PERDA-TECH has recorded several achievements in 2025, including two gold, seven silver and two bronze medals at the i-CompEx Competition, in addition to wins at INNOZILLA USM and i-RITEC UTHM, while its V2Go project was selected for the TVET Excellent Award.

He said these successes demonstrate the institution’s capability to position itself as a high-skills reference centre in the northern region.
