SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government will begin its free Influenza vaccination programme for schoolchildren in four districts with the highest number of cases - Petaling, Klang, Gombak and Hulu Lang - starting next week.
State Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the programme is expected to involve over 12,500 schoolchildren, with an allocation of RM1 million.
“This programme aims to ensure children, especially those from low-income groups, are protected against Influenza infections and to reduce its spread within the community,” she said in a statement today.
She said the programme will be implemented through two methods. The first is through the outreach programme in schools that have Integrated Special Education Centres (PPKIs) to provide Influenza vaccines to about 4,720 pupils aged eight and below from the B40 group.
She added that each pupil will receive information leaflets regarding the programme, as well as a QR code for parents to register through the SELangkah application.
“The state government, through Selcare Management Sdn Bhd, will collaborate with the Selangor State Education Department, the Selangor State Health Department, school administrations and community service centres to ensure the outreach programme is run smoothly,” she said.
Jamaliah also said that the second method of vaccination is through walk-ins at Selcare Clinics or selected panel clinic, with parents having to register and confirm their eligibility via the SELangkah app before heading to the health facilities.
As such, she urged all eligible parents to register via the SELangkah app and take advantage of the service provided by the state government to protect their children from Influenza infections.
“The Selangor government remains committed to ensuring the well-being of the people, particularly children and families from low-income groups.
“This Influenza vaccination programme can not only help reduce the financial burdens of B40 families, but also play a crucial role in improving children’s health and school attendance,” she said.
