SEPANG, Nov 3 -- The newly crowned Moto3 champion Lorenzo Dalla Porta bags a hattrick win in a dramatic contest at the 2019 Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) at the Sepang International Circuit, today.

It was his third-straight victory of the season after Japan GP and Australian GP.

The 22-year-old representing Leopard Racing team claimed the victory today as a highside for Gabriel Rodrigo of Kommerling Gresini Moto3 wiped the early leaders out of the race.

"Rodrigo crashed and I tried to put my bike in a good position and leading the race, and I really did it. It is fantastic for me, I want to thank my team, my family, fans and everybody who always supporting me," he said.

The Italian clocked in at 38 minutes 01.355 seconds (s) to beat rookie Sergio Garcia of Estrella Galicia 0,0 and Jaume Masia (Mugen Race) – who started from the back of the grid – in an intensely fought lightweight class contest.

During the race in hot and humid condition, there were plenty of chopping and changing for the lead in the opening laps as polesitter Marcos Ramirez (Leopard Racing), Suzuki and the fast-starting Rodrigo jostled for the lead.

In Lap 6 Rodrigo held the baton but on the exit of Turn 4, the Argentinian highsided. This left second place man Suzuki with nowhere to go and the leading duo crashed, with Alonso Lopez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) unable to avoid one of the stricken Hondas as the Spaniard crashed heavily but none of the riders were seriously hurt as the pack got split.

"The victory is also for the rider who died yesterday. And for his family as the energy for their life," he added.

The Indonesian rider Afridza Munandar died after being involved in an incident in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC) race yesterday.

The incident occurred at Turn 10 on Lap 1, with the race red flagged immediately thereafter.

The 20-year-old rider received medical attention by the side of the track before being transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by helicopter.
