KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 -- As early as 6 am today, hundreds of people, mostly children, were seen gathered at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Square wearing sports attires, with some carrying along their bicycles.
It was only around 7.30 am that the crowd had doubled to approximately 1,000, before the “Cyclelah with DYTM Raja Muda and DYTM Raja Puan Muda Perlis” programme to promote healthy lifestyle was flagged off.
The cycle-and-walk programme was organised by Smart Reader Worldwide Sdn Bhd in conjunction with bimonthly KL Car Free Morning, an event by DBKL holds on the first and third Sunday of every month.
It was graced by Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, before they both led the 5km cycling route and 3km walk, respectively.
Besides promoting a healthy lifestyle, the event was also to raise funds for the Smart Reader's National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme to ensure the accessibility of quality early childhood education to underprivileged children.
Raja Puan Muda Perlis is the Royal Patron for the scholarship programme. The initiative has enabled more than 500 less fortunate children to experience quality early childhood education.
“Through One Child One Hope initiative, we will ensure the quality of education is accessible for all children in Malaysia,” said Smart Reader Worldwide chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Richard Ong.
