Students, lecturers join Negeri Sembilan & Melaka POLYCC@Linggi Expedition

SEREMBAN, Oct 6 -- Some 100 volunteers comprising lecturers and students from several polytechnics and community colleges participated in the Negeri Sembilan & Melaka POLYCC@Linggi Expedition Programme.
Port Dickson Polytechnic (PPD) director Roslee Yahya said the three-day community service programme participated by Port Dickson, Kota Bharu and Melaka Polytechnics as well as Kuala Pilah Community College took volunteers to areas around Kampung Sungai Timun, Linggi and Sungai Lubuk Cina.
“Apart from providing expertise and technical assistance to the local communities, the volunteers also helped enhance the quality of Negeri Sembilan tourism products by establishing partnerships with tourism agencies, as the state has much to offer to tourists,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, expedition chairman Muhd Zaki Mustapha said through the programme closer ties were established between the PPDs and the local communities.
"While preparing the present generation for globalisation challenges through education, they must be encouraged to participate in such programmes which could promote team spirit and train them in developing communications and leadership skills.
Volunteers assisted with the installation of solar power panels. construction of filtration tanks, mangrove restoration, cleaning of Sungai Linggi, Sungai Timun and Sungai Lubuk Cina throughout the tour which ended today.
