TANAH MERAH, Sept 27 -- A boy with disabilities (OKU) died in a home fire in Kampung Paku Gua Ipoh, near here this morning.

Acting Tanah Merah district police chief ASP Mohd Zailal Wasubri said the incident happened at 11.45 am when the 11-year-old boy was alone with his 13-year-old sister in his grandmother’s house.

“His mother and grandmother had gone to the pharmacy at 9 am. The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 11.46 am.

“Firemen reached the scene and found the fire spreading rapidly as the house was partially made of wood and that 80 per cent of the house was already razed. The fire was brought under control at about 12.30pm,” he told reporters.

According to Mohd Zailal, the sister was unable to rescue her brother because the flames spread too fast.

The body of the victim was sent to the Tanah Merah Hospital for a post mortem.
