KOTA KINABALU, Sept 4 -- A man, reported missing while out fishing with his father at Pantai Batu Gadung in Kota Belud, was found drowned last night.
Sabah Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director (Operations) Maritime Capt Asmawati Mohd Tujeri said Mohd Shahril Bashir, 28, was found off Pantai Namamun, Rampaian Laut, about eight kilometres from where he was reported missing.
“The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre received a call at 7.50pm to inform that villagers who were part of the search team, had located the victim and the body was taken to Kota Belud Hospital,” he said in a statement here.
In the 6am incident yesterday, the father-son fishing outing turned tragic when Mohd Shahril was feared drowned after the boat they were in was hit by huge waves some 100 metres off Pantai Batu Gadung.
Sabah MMEA mounted a SAR operation with the cooperation of personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force at 8.30am after they were alerted of the incident at 8.05am.
