JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Education Ministry have come up with several annual programmes aimed at giving a fresh impetus to the teaching and learning of Arab language for both students and teachers in the country.
Director of ISESCO Malaysia, Dr Abdul Razif Zaini, said the efforts were part of their strategic efforts taken to empower the mastering of Arab language at all levels.
He said the joint effort, entering its third year this year, has given the opportunity to ISESCO to expand its expertise and help the education ministry ensure that a more better command of the third language is achieved by teachers and students.
“Todate, we have carried out more than 10 studies together with the Education Ministry in the field of Arab language. The findings clearly indicate that there is inadequacy in the system for teaching as well as conducting lessons in Arab among teachers and students and hence the move for improvement.
“The ISESCO and the ministry will therefore play their role and responsibility to ensure that opportunities are provided for them to gain a command of the Arab language,” Dr Abdul Razif said to Bernama after closing a workshop on learning the Arab language at the State Education Department here today.
The two-day workshop was aimed towards effective learning of the Arab language in the 21st century and equipping teachers with the necessary technology in line with the current era.
More than 50 participants comprising teachers of the Arab language from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia took part in the workshop.
Dr Abdul Razif said ISESCO is also looking at expanding its strategic networking in the South East Asia region.
“We have a Memorandum of Understanding with Universiti Ahmad Dahlan Jakarta, Indonesia and also the National University of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City towards expanding our role in the field of Arab language education.”
The Education Centre of ISESCO Malaysia branch was established on Oct 22, 2015 and it comes under the patronage of the Rabat, Morocco based ISESCO.
Apart from Malaysia, other member nations of the organisation are Brunei, Myanmar, China, Taiwan, Laos, Singapore, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
