MIRI, Aug 20 -- The Civil Defence Force (APM) has identified an area as big as  10.52 hectares which is still covered in thick smoke due to peat fire near Tudan and Hamidah Orphanage Complex in Kuala Baram.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBN) in a statement said a fire investigation had been conducted by air using Bintulu APM team drones this morning.

"A survey of the area shows that 3.6 hectares were on fire," said the statement.

According to the statement, APM will monitor the situation from time to time to ensure that the situation is under control.

Forest and peat fires in Kuala Baram are divided into three sectors with extinguishing efforts in sectors 1 and 2 undertaken by firefighters and employees of a corporate company while sector 3 is carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Bombadier aircraft which had assisted in firefighting since Aug 15.
