KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The implementation of Civic Education in schools beginning in June this year will focus on four core values ??of love, happiness, respect and responsibility.

Ministry of Education Malaysia’s (MOE) Curriculum Development Division director Dr Mohamed Abu Bakar said that based on these four values, the ministry could also provide suitable topics for inclusion in related subjects.

“These four core values ??were actually inspired by Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik himself during discussions with the experts involved.

"These values ??are broken down into smaller topics with a focus on issues related to current challenges, such as social issues, health, sexual education, road safety, basic rights as citizens and unity," he said after appearing as a guest on the ‘Ruang Bicara’ programme aired on Bernama News Channel today.

Civics Education is conducted for one hour on the fourth week of each schooling month in the subjects of Bahasa Melayu, English, Islamic Education, Moral Education, and History.

Children in preschool will be taught Civics for 30 minutes, while the core values would also be reinforced during assembly and curricular activities.
