Number of flood victims drop to 714 in Melaka

MELAKA, July 9 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Melaka has dropped slightly to 714 people as of noon compared to 753 victims this morning when 39 people from nine families allowed to return home.

Melaka Civil Defence Force (APM) director, Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali, in a statement, said 714 victims from 81 families were still housed at six temporary evacuation centres - four in Alor Gajah district, while the other two in Melaka Tengah district.

He said the number of evacuees housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Belimbing Dalam dropped to 320 people from 81 families, while the evacuees in three other centres remained unchanged with 27 people from six families (placed at Kampung Beringin community hall), 40 people from seven families (Bukit Balai community hall) and nine people from two families (Sungai Tuang community hall).

Meanwhile, he said, the number of evacuees also remained unchanged at two centres in Melaka Tengah, namely SK Krubong which housed 185 victims from 48 families and SK Taman Merdeka with 149 victims from 40 families.
