BUTTERWORTH, July 1 (Bernama) -- A drug addict not only set a motorcycle belonging to a friend of his elder sister on fire when she did not give him money to buy drugs but also threatened policemen who wanted to detain him, with a knife.
North Seberang Perai district police chief, ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that the 33-year-old man was detained at about 10.40 am at home in Bagan Dalam, here today after his elder sister lodged a police report upon realising her friend’s motorcycle had been razed.
‘’The woman lodged a police report at 7 am after realising the motorcycle had been set on fire. Her neighbour told her that her younger brother set the motorcycle on fire at 6 pm yesterday after family members refused to give him money to buy drugs,’’ he said here.
He said that investigation found the man often ran amuk and demanded money from his siblings to buy drugs and would damage household items if they did not comply.
He said that the man also threatened four policemen with a knife when they wanted to detain him and, following his detention, the police seized a knife.
‘’He was tested positive on drugs and the case was being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code,’’ he added.
