KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- A total of 40 Malaysian delegations from 15 organisations and companies are taking part in 53rd International Paris Air Show (IPAS) 2019.
The participation was among the strategies taken by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) through the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) to expand the footprint of Malaysian aerospace companies.
MITI minister Datuk Darell Leiking led Malaysia’s delegation to the event in Le Bourget, France which began yesterday until June 23.
“Currently, South-East Asia has a dynamic aerospace industry and Malaysia is well positioned to capitalise from this development.
“Malaysia is now home to more than 230 aerospace companies and the numbers keep growing, this is a catalyst to a vibrant local ecosystem and strong world demand for Malaysian products or services, meaning that the growth of the Malaysian companies can be accelerated,” said Darell in a statement today.
The participation is aimed at exploring partnership opportunities for Malaysian companies with international Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers as well as the original equipment manufacturers in the aerospace manufacturing and services sector.
Among the focus areas are the manufacturing of precision parts and components, engineering services as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
Last year, Malaysia’s exports of aerospace parts and components had recorded a 20.7 per cent increase to reach RM8.48 billion, while imports stood at RM15.91 billion or an increase of 26.2 per cent in the same year.
