KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 (Bernama) -- A book titled 'May 9: People Power Saves Malaysia - Mahathir Leads the Way' written by veteran journalist M. Krishnamoorthy won the nation’s most coveted annual book award.
Krishnamoorthy who is also HELP University’s associate professor in a statement today said the book received the highest votes in the non-fiction category at the Popular Bookfest award ceremony held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, yesterday.
He said his sixth book was voted as the best among nine other nominations for the Popular-The Star Readers’ Choice Awards, followed by ‘Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street’ and third was ‘The People’s Victory: How Malaysians Saved Their Country’.
“My feelings on the 14th general election (GE14) are memorable with a 93 year old leader taking on the helm, and I felt this must be recorded in a book. I must thank Dr Mahathir (Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and all Malaysians for inspiring me to write the book,” he said.
The book chronicling events surrounding the momentous GE14 in May last year that toppled the Barisan Nasional (BN) regime after six decades in power, garnered the highest number of votes, to win the first prize of RM3,000 and a trophy in an online poll conducted by leading book distributor Popular Book Company (M) Sdn Bhd.
In his masterpiece, Krishnamoorthy focused among others on the key role played by Dr Mahathir in galvanising Malaysians of all races as he steered the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition to Putrajaya.
