Ministry wants sports stakeholders to be bold in facing problems

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong today called on stakeholders in the local sports scene to be more daring to interact regarding the problems they face.

He said that if they were brave enough to voice out, the ministry will be able to find out more about the challenges that they had to face in their journey to uphold the name of the country.

According to him, previously some parties, especially the athletes, were fond of expressing their problems through texts messages rather than conveying them face-to-face, but the trend had changed lately

"The ministry’s responsibility is to create an ecosystem where athletes, officials, coaches and the associations can function optimally. it is always ready to hear any problems as it may be a factor affecting their performance.

"But we as Eastern people are sometimes reluctant to speak out but we are encouraging more openness and transparency and we see athletes and officials increasingly daring to voice their hearts out...that's a good development," Sim said after visiting the Malaysian Underwater Hockey Association athletes training before having a meeting with them at the Jungle Gym of the National Sports Council (MSN) here today.

Sim added that the ministry is committed to supporting all stakeholders in their quest for sports glory.
