DOHA, Feb 19 (Bernama) - The State of Qatar expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the explosion that took place near Al-Azhar Mosque in the Egyptian capital Cairo, killing two policemen and wounding three officers, reported Qatar News Agency.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar's firm stance on rejecting violence and terrorism regardless of the motives and causes.
The statement expressed the State of Qatar's condolences to the families of the victims and the Government and people of Egypt, wishing the injured speedy recovery.
Earlier, Anadolu Agency reported, quoting local media, that a man blew himself up behind the mosque on late Monday.
The (Anadolu Agency) report also detailed an account from news site Egypt Today stating that security forces identified the attacker as Al Hasan Abdullah, 37.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the bomb explosion as well. Anadolu Agency reported that OIC Secretary General Yousef al-Othaimeen, in a statement, underlined the pan-Muslim grouping's solidarity with Egypt in the face of terrorism.
"Such criminal acts will only increase the strength and determination of Egypt and the Egyptians to eliminate terrorist groups," said al-Othaimeen.
