SEREMBAN, Feb 12 (Bernama) – Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and MAG Technology and Trading Sdn Bhd today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in implementing a business model based on the integrated vehicle service centre or I-workshop.

The objective of the MoU is to meet the needs of local skilled workforce development in the automotive industry in line with the development of Fourth Industrial Revolution 4.0, besides aiming to produce more entrepreneurs.

MARii chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Madani Sahari said I-workshop was based on a business concept which grouped together seven to 10 automotive entrepreneurs under one roof such as the model implemented by MAG Technology.

“This will facilitate consumers to get quality vehicle maintenance servcies under one roof, with modern equipment and technology used at I-workshop in line with the new vehicle models plying on the roads.

“I-workshop creates new business opportunities in Malaysia,” he told reporters after launching I-workshop here today.

MAG Technology is the first I-workshop in the country.

I-workshop is similar to the existing 4S (sales, service, spare parts and body/paint services) centres of renowned car brands such as Proton, Honda and Toyota, and provides almost the same facilities.

Madani said other I-workshops would be launched respectively in Seremban and Melaka this year and would also be expanded nationwide.

“I hope this initiative will get the support from entrepreneurs,” he said.

Meanwhile, MAG Group CEO Zamani Baharom said I-workshop provided a platform for entrepreneurs to open their own workshop to merge and offer services and expertise under one roof.

Through I-workshop, customers would be able to save up to 30 per cent of the total vehicle maintenance cost, he said, adding MAG Technology had already grouped six entrepreneurs to date.

“We expect to secure additonal customers by up to 50 per cent as they can get good, quality services here with cost-savings, while providing similar facilities such as those offered by 4S centres,” he added.

MAG Technology, a Bumiputera company established on Dec 31, 2012, offers training services to youths in rural areas, vehicle diagnostic services as well as vehicle recovery and repair services.
