SEMENYIH, Feb 12 (Bernama) — A total of 1,115 police officers and personnel from the Kajang district police headquarters and 385 outsourced workers will be deployed for the Semenyih state by-election on March 2, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
He said six Public Order Riot Units and five infantry platoons from the Central Brigade of the General Operations Force were on stand-by for any possibility of incidents that could undermine public order.
“They are advised to discharge their duties appropriately and professionally to safeguard the image of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)," he said during a visit by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to Battalion 4, PGA, here today.
Noor Rashid said the people should not be unduly worried to leave their home to exercise their rights as voters because their safety had always been a priority by PDRM.
He gave the assurance that the police would ensure a smooth by-election process in Semenyih.
The Semenyih by-election is called following the death of the incumbent assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, from Pakatan Harapan (PH), of a heart attack last Jan 11.
This is the fourth by-election to be held in Selangor after the 14th General Election, with the first for Sungai Kandis, followed by Seri Setia and Balakong.
