KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The Zakat Collection Centre of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (PPZ-MAIWP) is hoping to gain 4,000 new zakat (tithe) contributors in a single phase through the year's Thohir Scheme 2018 campaign.
The scheme - a four-month campaign from July 1 till Oct 31 - allow for the payment of income zakat via a monthly salary deduction, aimed at encouraging more Muslims to carry out their obligations.
PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer, Ahmad Shukri Yusoff said that there were 7,035 zakat contributors who signed up in two phases last year.
"For the duration of the (Thohir Scheme 2018) campaign, we will meet representatives of employers and members of the workforce in various sectors to explain about zakat, especially income zakat, and run activities such as talks, briefings and quizzes," he said at the media conference of Thohir Scheme 2018 launching ceremony, here, today.
