KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Asian Tour will feature the inaugural Sarawak Championship scheduled in Kuching from July 4-7 at Damai Golf and Country Club.
The championship supported by the State Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry will offer a prize purse of US$300,000 (RM1.2 million) and will be the fourth event sanctioned by Asian Tour in Malaysia in 2018 along with EurAsia Cup, Maybank Championship and CIMB Classic.
Asian Tour chief executive officer Josh Burack in a statement today welcomed the latest addition to the Tour's 2018 schedule.
"This is excellent news for golf in Asia. Malaysia is a very important market for the Asian Tour and we are delighted to add the Sarawak Championship which we expect to be a vibrant tournament."
"Our Asian Tour players are excited to compete in Sarawak and get to enjoy the various cultures the state has to offer."
"Malaysia is a huge melting pot of cultures and I'm confident the beauty of Sarawak will be extensively promoted through our television highlights as well as the additional content we produce and distribute on our digital media channels," he said.
The event will see a total of 150 players, including a minimum of 25 Malaysian golfers, contending for the title.....
