Last update: 16/05/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim left the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital and was said to be heading to Istana Negara to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V scheduled for noon today.

Anwar, who also sported a black blazer, left the hospital at 11.33 am in a vehicle of the Prisons Department with his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail after squeezing through a cheering crowd that had gathered at the hospital compound.

Anwar, who is to be granted a full pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, smiled as he waved to his supporters and reporters, but did not make any statement. He was guarded by several policemen.

A convoy of five vehicles, with two motorcycle escorts from the Prisons Department, left for Istana Negara.

More than 100 local and international newsmen had gathered at the hospital compound as early as 7 am to cover the event.

Security was tight at the hospital where Anwar had been warded as he recovered from a recent surgery, with every vehicle entering the hospital compound subjected to checks.

Anwar's supporters, however, were not allowed into the hospital compound for security reasons and they gathered outside the entrance.
