KUANTAN, April 16 (Bernama) -- If in the past the Musang King durian, honey jackfruit and mangosteen from Pahang could penetrate the international markets like to China and Europe, this time, the watermelon from Ubai, Pekan has entered the Dubai market.
Pahang State Rural Development, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee Chairman, Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif, said Kampung Ubai was picked as the launch site of the 'Watermelon from Ubai to Dubai´ programme as it was the main cultivation area in the state.
"The village has been carrying out watermelon cultivation activities for the last 30 years and so far 38 people have been involved covering almost 29 hectares.
"Initially, we will export 80 tonnes of watermelons from here to Dubai with four shipments a month," he told reporters after the launch of 'Tembikai from Ubai to Dubai' programme here today.
Also present were Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority Deputy Director-General, Mansor Omar, and Pahang Director of Agriculture Department, Yusof Sultan.....
