KOTA KINABALU, March 21 (Bernama) -- Radio Television Malaysia's (RTM) new channel, TV OKEY, has been seen as a platform to explore the potential of the creative industry in Sabah and Sarawak, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

"I am confident and believe that this new TV channel will certainly open up opportunities for more local artistes to venture into the creative industry."

"It will also expose local creative content at the national and international levels," he said during the launch of the new TV channel by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here tonight.

Also present were the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Salleh said TV OKEY was a solid platform to strengthen national unity and stability as there were various programmes to showcase the daily life and diversified cultures and traditions of the people in Sabah and Sarawak.

TV OKEY is also capable of becoming a new electronic media highway to support the government's effort to cultivate unity, tolerance, harmony and noble values that reinforced togetherness, patriotic spirit, love and loyalty to the country, he said.

Commenting further, Salleh said the content offered by the new channel was specially crafted to cater to the wide audience.

"It is also compatible with digital TV broadcasting, which will begin very soon, when the transition from analog to digital broadcasting is carried out,? he said.

As such, Salleh said the launch of TV OKEY was timely as digital broadcasting would open up more opportunities for creative industry players to produce quality content in line with the current trends and demands.

Meanwhile, the minister said the name TV OKEY was chosen as it was easy to mention, memorable and unpretentious, and that he hoped it would provide opportunities, knowledge and experience to all levels of society.

The TV OKEY channel can be viewed on channel 110 on MyTV and 109 on Astro.
