PUTRAJAYA, March 8 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (MOA) has mobilised its agencies to provide more opportunities for women's participation in agriculture, said its Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak declared 2018 as the Women Empowerment Year, the MOA saw it as a noble call and has begun to draw up contributions to support the call.
Ahmad Shabery said the agriculture sector had many opportunities for anyone wanting to improve their lives and incomes through entrepreneurship, including in the planting, breeding, fishery, as well as agro-based, food and culinary industries.
"The agriculture sector used to be connected to poverty and pressures on women, but now it is a stepping stone to a better life which gives economic independence to those involved," he said in a statement issued today in conjunction with International Women's Day 2018.
According to Ahmad Shabery, TEKUN Nasional had announced that half of the RM500 million funds this year were allocated to women entrepreneurs to help them start or expand their businesses.....
