Ex-Russian Spy In Coma After Exposure To Nerve Agent

Last update: 08/03/2018
LONDON, March 8 (Bernama) -- Former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia are in a coma after exposure to a suspected nerve agent in Salisbury, southwest of London, China's Xinhua new agency reported quoting Sky News on Wednesday.

''They were believed to be hurt by a highly toxic chemical,'' said Mark Rowley, an assistant commissioner who heads a counter terrorism policing unit.

Skripal and Yulia were found unconscious on a bench at a shopping mall on Monday.

The Russian Embassy in Britain made a statement on Wednesday saying that Russia has not received any further information on the incident from Britain, which is "rather worrying."

It described British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's recent speech as strongly anti-Russian and "looks more like an attempt to send the investigation upon a political track."

Johnson made a speech earlier this week saying that Britain "will respond robustly if the attack is found to be the result of hostile activity by another government."

Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow has no information about the cause of the incident and that they are open to cooperation.

In 2006, Skripal,66, was sentenced to 13 years jail for cooperating with the British Secret Intelligence Service, the MI-6, and releasing the names of Russian intelligence agents working undercover in Europe.....
