SEREMBAN, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) today emerged as runner-up in the final of the Arabic Debating Championship (UADC) organised by Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in Yogyakarta.
The USIM team comprised Muhammad Syamim Md Morshid, 20, Nur Ain Hannani Hamid, 21, Sharifah Thahirah Syed Mustafa, 22, and Adam Fikry Bakru Rozi, 23, and was the only team from Malaysia to enter the competition.
USIM Strategic Communication Centre officer, Mohd Zaini Othman said the university's debaters put up an excellent performance in the final as the proposers in the oratory battle against their opponents from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN), Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung on the topic, 'The Council Believes It's Important To Ban Cryptocurrency'.
The UADC which began on Feb 27 and ended today featured 87 debaters from 24 participating teams from 16 universities including Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakata, Universitas Al-Azhar Indonesia, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and Institut Dirosat Islamiyah Al-Amein.
Mohd Zaini said, as the runner-up, the USIM team received Rp3 million (RM850), a trophy and a certificate of appreciation from the debate organisers. Also two of USIM's debaters, Nur Ain Hannani and Sharifah Thahirah were ranked among the 10 best debaters at UADC 2018.....
