KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- More government, human rights organisation and non-governmental organisations have joined the condemnation against the alleged inhumane treatment which led to the death of an Indonesian maid in Penang recently.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said today, the government would ensure appropriate action would be taken against the culprit so that justice could prevail.
"Malaysia is a sovereign state where human rights are respected. The Malaysian Constitution guarantees the rights to be safe and protected at all times, regardless if you are a local citizen of a foreigner," she said in a statement today.
Adelina Lisio, 28, died at Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Sunday after she was believed to have been abused in a house at Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
According to reports, several neighbours alleged that the maid was forced to sleep with a Rottweiler at the car porch for over a month, before she was rescued on Saturday.....
