Flood Situation In Sarawak Improves

KUCHING, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Sarawak is improving with 3,173 people from 991 families still at 14 relief centres in six divisions in the state as at 8 pm today.

A spokesman at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the remaining flood evacuees comprised 575 people in Serian, Sarikei (eight people), Sibu (1,167 people), Mukah (107 people), Bintulu (1,183 people) and Limbang (133 people).

Two relief centres in Serian, at Dewan Kampung Slabi Entukuh and Dewan Bale Buk Jan Jun, and one in Mukah, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parish, Balingian, were closed at 4.30 pm today after all the flood victims were allowed to return home.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Education Department, in a statement, said 48 schools were still affected by the floods and they involved 4,273 students, 635 teachers and 286 support staff.
