Selangor immigration detains 160 illegals in Semenyih

SHAH ALAM, March 13 (Bernama) -- Two children are among the 160 illegal migrants detained for various offences in two operations mounted by the Selangor Immigration Department at four locations in Semenyih early this morning.

The illegal migrants were picked at two massage and beauty parlours, as well as two workers´ quarters, during the four-hour raid which began at 11pm yesterday.

Selangor Immigration director Omran Omar said in the first operation dubbed 'Ops Gegar', 10 out of 19 female foreign workers rounded-up at the massage and beauty parlours, were detained, while in the second operation dubbed 'Ops Ikrar', 150 illegal workers were nabbed.

"Those detained comprise 73 men from Indonesia, Bangladesh (47) and Myanmar (six), as well as 25 Indonesian women and nine Thais.

"Further investigation revealed that 122 of them did not possess valid permits; 20 overstayed and nine had violated the terms of their visit passes. However, nine were released as their permits were still valid in the immigration system," he said in a statement today.....
