KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- Police crippled a syndicate, dubbed 'Ayah Nun', which had been active in distributing and selling of ketum juice in the federal capital with the arrest of four group members in Taman Setapak here last Monday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the suspects, all men and aged between 21 and 56, were picked up during a raid at a house there at 3.45 pm following a public tip-off.
He said police also seized 96 plastic packages of ketum leaves weighing a kilogramme each, 217 plastic packages of what is believed to be ketum juice (173.6 litres) and a big plastic basin containing 20 kg of ketum leaves, all of which valued at RM6,376.
"Investigation revealed that the group members had been active for three months. The (ketum juice) had been sold to individuals at markets around the city to substitute drug addiction.
"We found that the suspects obtained the ketum leaves from the northern states and transported (to Kuala Lumpur) using express buses in the quantity of 50 to 60 kilograms, to be [processed into juice," he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent headquarters here today.....
