TAWAU, Jan 3 (Bernama) --- Police have refuted the fake information gone viral on WhatsApp about kidnappers driving around in a car to kidnap children at Sekolah Kebangsaan Muhibah and around Tawau.

Tawau district police chief, ACP Fadil Marsus said the claim was false and was being disseminated by irresponsible individuals.

"No such incident has taken place. Police have also met the owner of the vehicle in question, and the owner is a 52-year-old woman," he said in a statement, here, today.

Fadil also advised the public to check the validity of any information before spreading it because the act of disseminating fraudulent information could be liable to legal action as provided under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code (imprisonment for up to two years or a fine, or both).

Since yesterday, the fake message disseminated was that of a Perodua Alza car being used to try and abduct children near SK Muhibah and urging parents to be more careful as the kidnappers were active in Tawau.....
