SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- A group of eight lecturers from six universities will embark on a 22-day scientific voyage to the Antarctic to carry out specific research in various fields.
The voyage, dubbed the Malaysian Antarctic Research Expedition 2016, is being organised at a cost of RM450,000 and also the first ever financed by Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation (YPASM), with the cooperation from the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
The eight lecturers are Dr Mohamad Huzaimy Jusoh of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Dr Goh Thian Lai and Dr Mohd Shahrul Mohd Nadzir (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Dr Emienour Muzalina Mustafa (Universiti Malaya), Dr Mohd Rauhan Wan Hussin (Universiti Malaysia Terengganu), Dr Foong Swee Yeok and Muhamad Hilal Mohd Zainudin (Universiti Sains Malaysia), and Aniqah Zulfa Abdul Latif (International Medical University.
They are scheduled to leave for Argentina tomorrow and are expected to begin the 4,000-km voyage by sea to the Antarctic from the Port of Ushuaia on Monday and to return home on Feb 14.
Speaking to reporters today, Dr Mohamad Huzaimy, who is also the expedition leader, said the areas of scientific research they would carried out ranged from biology, ecology, atmosphere chemistry, earth science, astronomy and astrophysics.....
