Infrastructure In Public Areas Need To Be More Accessible For Disabled People

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- The infrastructure built in public areas need to be more accessible for people with disabilities (PWD) to help them use the facilities provided easily.

Senator Bathmavathi Krishnan said, the local authorities must think from different aspects to improvise the facilities provided for them especially inside and outside the building in public areas.

"If we want to be considered as a proper developed nation, we must enhance our accessibility," she told reporters after closing the three-day Wheelchair Assessment Training and Fitting for Recipients ceremony here Monday.

Bathmavathi, who is also a member of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities said, there was still a lack of coordination between government ministries because there was no national level co-ordinating body, resources and allocations to help these disabled people.

"I suggested each ministry should have their own unit to look for disabled people and the government must enforce them to find a solution.....
