MH370: MACC Finds No Element Of Corruption In Stolen Passports Case

Last update: 24/03/2014

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has found no elements of corruption in relation to the two Iranians who used stolen Italian and Austrian passports to board Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 which went missing on March 8.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed said both the Immigration Department and Malaysian Customs were investigated on the matter.

"However, we did find that the Iranians managed to slip through due to the policy of speeding up the clearance of foreign visitors.

"We recommend that the government gives more weight to security to prevent such instances instead of giving priority to customer oriented service," he said during a briefing session on "Is MACC Credible?" at Wisma Bernama, here Monday.

He added that it was quite impossible for Immigration to check all passports against Interpol's system which lists more than 40 million missing passports in a short time.....
