KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- One of the main challenges faced by the blind is the difficulty in accessing information. This is because most information are only available in print or digital format.
"The information that is available in Braille is limited. That is the biggest divide between the blind and the seeing," said the CEO of the Malaysian Foundation for the Blind (MFB) Silatul Rahim Dahman told Bernama when met at his office in Brickfields recently.
The 50-year-old said that there was a time that MFB tried to address the issue by holding a 'newspaper reading session' for the blind so that the latter could keep abreast with current issues.
"For example at 5.00 pm every day, volunteers would come (to the foundation) and allocation around an hour to read the newspaper for them. But for how long can we keep doing this"
"The times and technology has evolved, so we need a more practical methods to access the wealth of information coming in in so many forms," he explained.
Silatul Rahim is all too familiar with the problems of the visually-impaired, being a blind person himself.....
