NEW DELHI (Bernama) -- Before he embarked on his four-day trip to India last week, French President Emmanuel Macron made his grand intent about Indo-French relations clear.

Taking advantage of Britain's decision to leave the 28-member European Union, France hopes to become the focal point of India's engagement with Europe.

"Your historical partner in Europe was the UK, and I want France to become the new partner," Macron told an Indian journalist.

No, it doesn't look like a modern version of the British-French colonial contests in India in the 18th century.

Both India and France see a convergence of interests in a number of areas, not limited to trade, diplomacy and military.....
