UNIQ PLANS TO SPREAD ITS WINGS ACROSS ASEAN

05/04/2019 10:39 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- Homegrown herbal-based products company Uniq Manufacturing Sdn Bhd is looking forward to expand the sales of its air-care, insect repellent and cleaning products into ASEAN countries within the next two years.

Chief executive officer Mohamad Reza Fikry Nor Rezan said currently, the products are marketed in Singapore under the “Gramp’s Asia” brand

“We would like to strengthen our market base near home first before exploring other parts of the world, especially Europe,” he told reporters after winning the “Most Innovative Non-Food Product” award at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) Awards 2019 here today.

Uniq’s product line was first established 16 years ago by Mohamad Reza’s father, herbalist Nor Rezan Mohd Noor or popularly known among herbalists as “Tok Ayah”, with the original intention for the products to be used by family members and friends.

Today, Nor Rezan is running the company together with his son, Mohamad Reza.

“When we establish the company back then, everyone in the family played a part. In 2016, we decided to commercialise (the business) as there was a great demand for sustainable, natural and safe products,” he said.

This is the second time father and son joined Mihas and it has been a good run for them so far.

“It is a good avenue for us to meet with new customers and potential business associates, and this has been a great boost to our business,” Mohamad Reza said.

Meanwhile, Nor Rezan said the ingredients that he uses are 100 per cent environmental friendly and sourced naturally from the surrounding areas of his home.

“When I formulise the products, I wanted it to be safe for my grandchildren and today, I am happy to say that we have gained a lot of interest from trade visitors at Mihas 2019,” said Nor Rezan.

Among the company’s products are the Bye-Bye Semut and Bye-Bye Nyamuk insect repellents, as well as surface wipes and air cleaner that can be used by everyone, including babies and animals as they are water-based herbal products and free from chemicals.

Mihas 2019, which ends tomorrow, features over 1,000 booths and 850 companies from 44 countries and expects to draw around 23,000 visitors.

This year’s showcase witnessed a first-time participation of Morocco, Switzerland and Canada.

Now in its eight edition since 2012, the event is organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation.
