HALAL INDUSTRY PLAYERS SHOULD USE INDUSTRY 4.0 TECHNOLOGIES

03/04/2019 03:30 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Halal industry players have been urged to utilise new technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) which have the potential to provide many benefits towards the expansion of the industries in question.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said that the halal industry should explore and take advantage of this revolution in the sub-sector of Internet of Things (IoT), block chain, nanotechnology, industrial Big Data analytic and mobile technology.

“Mobile phone apps specific for halal are in fact quite common today, from helping travelers find halal eateries, mosques and qiblat, to cross-check halal certificate validation and verification such as Jakim’s (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) Verify Halal app,” he said.

He was speaking when opening the 2019 Global Halal Summit Conference Opening ceremony (GHaS 2019) themed ‘Halal Connecting the World’ participated by 40 countries at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

It was the biggest platform provided for all halal industry players in the world and displayed through discussion sessions, knowledge sharing, network activities and opportunities to further boost the halal community for the benefit of global society.

According to Mujahid the impact of the revolution included boosting standard of living, strengthens security and protection and significantly improve the capacity of a community.

In fact, he said the halal industry must make full beneficial use of the potential in the effort to continue to record growth at the international level.

In the meantime, he said that at least 10,000 local and international companies had obtained the halal certificate from Jakim as of March.

In order to encourage outside companies to obtain the halal certificate, Jakim had opened the opportunities for international certification and also recognised 78 certifying bodies and foreign halal logo from 45 countries.

He was also proud of the positive response of GHaS 2019 which proved that the halal industry had recorded a momentum of increase at the international level and opened the opportunity to all quarters to firm up ties and business network between government agencies and industry activists.

‘’This advantage can be used to further strengthen the positive economc growth of the Muslim communities worldwide and I hope this event will be continued in future and become a national annual event,’’ he said.
