LANGKAWI, March 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) is collaborating with UK-based Samad Aerospace Ltd to develop Malaysia’s air mobility and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industries.

The ministry said the collaboration is on top of the existing cooperation with Malaysian technology companies such as Aerodyne Sdn Bhd, Strand Aerospace Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Four Fangs Sdn Bhd.

"This will, in turn, facilitates the development of the air mobility and UAV industries and their components to encourage more local entrepreneurs to venture into these sunrise industries," the ministry said in a written reply to Bernama today.

On the development of Malaysia's first flying vehicle, the ministry said the prototype, which is called "Vector", would be showcased in September.

The ministry said following overwhelming response from the public on the flying vehicle, the ministry is showcasing the 1/9 scale model of the prototype during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019 (LIMA’19) which started on Tuesday until March 30.

Designed by Aerodyne, which is also responsible for the engineering work, Vector is a point-to-point air mobility solution designed as an unmanned all-electric verticle take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The ministry said Vector is engineered with interchangeable payload options to carry either passengers, cargo or equipment for intelligence and surveillance capabilities.

"The introduction of Vector will be a catalyst to the UAV industry, enabling further development into artificial intelligence, autonomous navigation and advanced surveillance capabilities amongst others," it said.

A technology start-up, Samad Aerospace is working to revolutionise air transportation by developing a range of products that would redefine the air travelling experience.

The company launched a two-seater 2-in-1 combo of VTOL aircraft and car called HUMA at LIMA'19.
