KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) – Mastercard today announced that it was dropping its name from its iconic brand mark in select contexts.
In a statement, Mastercard said the interlocking red and yellow circles, referred to as the Mastercard Symbol, will now stand on its own across cards using the red and yellow brand mark, acceptance marks at retail locations in physical and digital worlds, as well as major sponsorship properties.
Chief marketing and communication officer, Raja Rajamannar said with more than 80 per cent of people spontaneously recognising the Mastercard Symbol without the world 'mastercard', Mastercard felt ready to take this next step in its brand evolution.
The red and yellow interlocking circles have been the hallmark of the Mastercard brand for more than 50 years.
Mastercard also unveiled its sonic brand identity, a comprehensive sound architecture.
Whenever consumers engage with Mastercard across the globe – be it physical, digital or voice environments – the distinct and memorable Mastercard melody will provide familiarity.
