KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) – Malaysia’s manufacturing sales recorded a growth of 8.1 per cent, rising to RM70.4 billion in August 2018 from RM65.1 billion reported in the same period last year, says the Department of Statistics Malaysia.

In its publication ‘Monthly Manufacturing Statistics’, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the significant increase in sales value for the month under review was due to the increase in electrical and electronics products (9.3 per cent); petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastics products (7.7 per cent); and transport equipment & other manufactured products (10.1 per cent).

He said the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in August 2018 was 1.074 million persons, an increase of 1.9 per cent from 1.054 million persons in August 2017.

“The content of the report also stated that salaries and wages paid rose 9.7 per cent to record RM3.872 billion, thus registering average salary and wage per employee of RM3,606 in August 2018.

“Meanwhile, sales value per employee gained 6.1 per cent to record RM65,528 as compared with the same month of the previous year,” he added.
