BM MOBILITY'S ELECTRIC BICYCLE-SHARING SERVICE ATTRACTS GOOD RESPONSE

08/08/2018 07:56 PM

SINGAPORE, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Singapore Exchange-listed BM Mobility Ltd, which officially launched its Revgo electric bicycle-sharing service at University of Malaya today, has garnered 1,000 registered members and rolled out 170 bicycles since making the service available in July.

In a statement today, the company said Revgo would operate under the banner of UNiRIDE Ecotour Sdn Bhd, a car-sharing business BM Mobility acquired early this year.

“Our service may have just started but we are hopeful of scaling this up fairly quickly as we believe there is demand for environmentally-friendly and cost-effective personal transport.

“The response from the university students has been very encouraging,” said UNiRIDE Chief Executive Officer Fadzili Ahmad Shiyuti.

Weighing around 40 kilogrammes, the Revgo bicycles can travel at a speed of up to 20 km an hour and as far as 50 km on a full charge.

BM Mobility said it planned to introduce the bicycle-sharing service to other universities in Malaysia and was looking into potential collaborations with establishments such as holiday resorts and even growth by franchising.

Founded in 2015, UNiRIDE operates a fleet of Perodua Axia cars in University of Malaya and three other universities.

The company, endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysia Automotive Institute, has exclusive rights to operate in the four universities which collectively have more than a quarter of a million students.

Revgo is the company’s first in-house electric vehicle brand and the first on-campus electric bicycle sharing platform in Malaysia.

BM Mobility is also a provider of charging equipment and solutions for electric vehicles in China.
