DHAKA, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- At least eight bodies of Rohingya people, who were fleeing violence in the country's western Rakhine state, were recovered Wednesday in the Bay of Bengal close to Bangladesh's southeastern border with Myanmar, China's Xinhua news agency reported a police official as saying.

The bodies were found floating in the Bay of Bengal near Shah Porir Island in Teknaf sub-district of the country's Cox's Bazaar district, 292km southeast of capital Dhaka, Md Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, told Xinhua.

"Eight bodies were recovered this morning." He could not tell whether one or more boats capsized. He also could not provide information immediately when and where the Rohingya boats capsized.
