Indonesia Targeting 107 Gold In Quest To Be Overall Champions

SEPANG, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Indonesia are targeting 107 gold medals in their quest to be overall champions of the 9th ASEAN Para Games which Kuala Lumpur will be hosting from Sept 17-23.

Chef-de-mission Dr Bayu Rahadian said the contingent's 200 athletes who will be competing in 11 events were all set to repeat the feat of the 'Garudas' at the Myanmar Games in 2014.

According to Dr Bayu, they were counting on making good harvests in athletics, swimming, chess, badminton and table-tennis.

"Our 107 gold target is a realistic one and we want to be overall champions," Dr Bayu told reporters after the contingent's arrival at the KL International Airport here today.

At the Myanmar Games, Indonesia won 99 gold, three more than Thailand who finished in second place. However, at the last edition in Singapore, they had to play second fiddle to Thailand when they secured 85 gold while Thailand won 95.....
