Organise More Sporting Events To Unearth New Talent - Rayzam

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- National track and field athlete Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian has called for more competitions to be organised in Sabah to produce more athletes to represent the country at various national and international tournaments.

Rayzam said such a move would not only produce new talents in athletics, but also in other sports.

"There are many hidden sporting talents including from interiors such as Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan and Ranau, as well as from Sandakan. We only lack sports competitions to unleash these talents,"he said after arriving at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport KKIA) from Kuala Lumpur here, today.

Apart from his wife, son and family members from Keningau, Rayzam was also welcomed by Sabah UMNO Youth chief Yamani Hafez Musa and several officials from the Sabah State Youth and Sports Ministry.

On Aug 26, Rayzam ended a decade-long wait for the gold medal after winning the 110m hurdles event at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017).

The Keningau-born athlete clocked in at 13.83s, ahead of four-time defending champion from Thailand Jamras Rittidet, who took silver with 14.10s and bronze medallist Clinton Kingsley B of the Philippines at 14.15s.

On his future plans, Rayzam said he was determined to defend his title at the next edition of the biennial games in the Philippines.

He is also preparing to qualify for two major tournaments next year - namely the Asian Games in Indonesia and the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
