Weightlifting: Vietnam's Hercules Smashes GR In 62 Kg Category

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Trinh Van Vinh emerged a 'hercules' for Vietnam when he set a new SEA Games record (GR) in the 62kg category en route to the gold in the weightlifting competition of the Kuala Lumpur Games at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre here today.

The 22-year-old lifted 307kg overall (135kg in the snatch and 172kg in the clean & jerk) to erase the old mark of 304 kg achieved by Eko Yuli Irawan of Indonesia in the Myanmar Games in 2013.

Eko Yuli won the silver after lifting 306kg overall (140kg in the snatch and 166kg in the clean & jerk). He also rewrote his GR of 137 kg in the snatch which he also did in Myanmar.

Myint Kyi of Myanmar took the bronze with 284kg overall (129 kg/ 155kg) while Malaysia's Muhammad Aznil Bidin finished in fourth place after he only managed 279kg (120kg/159kg).
