Thailand Clinch Last Gold In Petanque

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Sarawut Sriboonpeng and Aumpawan Suwannaphruk of Thailand clinched the gold medal in the petanque mixed pairs, the last event in petanque in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, at the KL Petanque Arena, Pudu Ulu Recreation Centre here today.

The duo defeated Cambodian pair Sao Sophearann-Duong Dina 13-8 in the final.

Malaysian pair Mohamad Nuzul Azwan Ahmad Temizi-Anis Amira Basri shared the bronze with Souliya Manyvanh-Neutsavth of Laos after both the pairs were defeated in the semifinals.

Muhamad Nuzul Azwan-Anis Amira lost to the champions 2-13 while the Laotian pair lost 8-13 to the Cambodians.

This time around, Malaysia's haul in petanque was two gold, one silver and three bronze, far better than the one gold, three silver and one bronze they won in Singapore two years ago.

Muhammad Hafizuddin Mat Daud retained his gold in the men's singles while Saiful Bahri Musmin and Syed Akmal Fikri Syed Ali came out tops in the men's pairs.
