Another Malaysian sprinter Jonathan Nyepa finished fifth, clocking 10.66s.

When met at the National Stadium after watching the event, Najib told reporters that Khairul Hafiz's win was a source of pride to the nation.

Overall, he said, he was proud of the achievements of the national contingent so far and described the competitive spirit of every athlete as extraordinary.

Meanwhile, Najib also sent words of encouragement to national badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei who lost in the first round of the World Badminton Championship in Glasgow, Scotland.
